That WAS the question.
All that garbage about people that have done it without those things
hijacked the thread into extremely unhelpful areas. We all know about
how things were done in the old days. So what? It isn't the old days
now.
FWIW Bob is an electrical engineer and does all that electrical stuff
as well as the engine stuff and the maintenance stuff and sewing of
cushion covers etc.
The cruisers that I know have SSB and water makers and solar panels.
Some of them recommend against an autopilot and wind generator and for
windvane steering. I respect those people, but it doesn't fit with
what I do. I don't have a water maker, or a windvane and I do have an
autopilot and a wind gen. That's our choice and we have reasons for
it which I stated.
