    Bryan;
    I guess it depends on how much trouble you are willing to go to in
    maintaining the stuff, and the style of the boat. If I can’t find a base I
    will simply machine one. It’s just a dovetail slot in a block of bronze,
    with holes for the bolts to mount it. I would like at least one original to
    use as a pattern just because I enjoy the appearance of the old equipment. I
    have always had the equipment to maintain my boats when I cruise; in fact I
    find that I can make money by repairing other boats as I go. I sail with
    every thing from a hydraulic swager to a small machine shop.
    All the best;
    Bob
