    Brian;
    The Cherub log that I need the base for is the older version of what you
    have. It is a much larger taffrail log and uses a different base. I also
    have the same one you have, the sling pattern MK IV. I have used that one on
    several transatlantic trips and found it to be a great and accurate tool. I
    have some spare fish for that one, do you want a fish. In all the miles I
    have used the log I have never lost the fish, but I always carry some
    spares. I do not yet use electronics for navigation and feel the need to
    keep accurate dead reckoning when the weather gets bad. When I get a new
    fish I sand it to bare metal and spray paint it black with a catalyzed
    finish. After that hardens I rub it with bronze wool to take off the shine
    and I think that makes it less of a target to the sharks.
    All the best;
    Bob
