There is some good background reading, historical statistics and
forecasts for Hurricanes in the various basins on the www.noaa.gov
website, especially the national hurricane center www.nhc.noaa.gov
which also has printable hurricane tracking charts.

Useful links have the answers to which Hurricanes moved from the
    Pacific to the Atlantic.
    http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/E11.html

A nice graph of frequency of hurricanes over the course of the year
for the Atlantic, and some disucssion on other areas:
    http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/G1.html

The probability by location (for the N. Atlantic) of getting nailed
by a storm during the Hurricane Season:
    http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/G12.html

    Plus the mariner's guide:
    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/marinersguide.pdf

Hope this helps rather than causing confusion !

I'd also recommend Jimmy Cornells "World Cruising Routes" which is an
excellent guide to planning longer routes.
