I have used car stereos before. Every new boat builder I'm aware of uses
car stereos as well. No significant problems. I did have one CD changer
fail a few years ago, but I'm certain the failure was not from marine
corrosion/environment...just a bad component.
FWIW, I installed a new stereo last year because I wanted satellite radio
capability. I've since subscribed to Sirius <http://sirius.com>, and am
delighted. Almost completely eliminates the need for CDs.
