[world-cruising] when best to head north?

When would be the best time of year to bring a sailboat north from Cabo San
Lucas to Seattle? I've read what Jimmy Cornell's "World Cruising Routes"
has to say but would be most interested to hear from people who have
actually made that long, uphill journey either along the coast or by
venturing offshore to one extent or another. I'll summarize and post any
off-list replies I get.
