What makes a boat single handable? Someone asked me
this the other day and I immediately started off with
the "usual" things like all lines led to the cockpit,
a boom brake, a "dutchman" reefing system on the main,
roller furling, etc. Then they said they had thought
about that and wanted to know more than just the "pat"
answers. They mentioned the amount of freeboard, maybe
a bow thruster could be needed. That sort of thing.
So, now I'm asking. What does make a boat single
handable? Is there a top end on the single
handability? I know there are those open 60's and such
but I'm not talking about multi-million dollar boats.
I'm talking realistic.
