Ron coyote Lussier didn't share his response to me with the group. With
this available, my return comments will make more sense.

What you 'believe' to be true is completely false, so I think that
Oceana gets a little more credibility than you do, at least until
they're shown to be lying. Here are some facts:

o In 1999, Royal Caribbean was fined $18 million for discharging oil &
    hazardous waste and falsifying records.

o Cruise ships are exempt from the discharge permitting program of the
    Clean Water Act.

o Seven thousand gallons of oily bilge water are generated every day.

o Thirty-three tanker trucks-worth of ballast water per cruise ship,
complete with plants and animals, including some that cause diseases,
are taken from faraway locations and released into U.S. harbors and
    bays.

o The total population of the cruise ships off the Alaskan coast during
the summer months, at any given time, make them the third-largest city
in Alaska. Their waste is dumped directly into the ocean off of the
Alaskan coast. No other city in Alaska is allowed to do this.

o During peak summer season, with an average of 20 ships each carrying
2,000 passengers, the daily discharge of sewage in the Inside Passage
is approximately 2.5 million gallons per day, equivalent to the entire
amount of sewage discharged in Alaska's capital, Juneau. The Inside
Passage is a thousand miles of protected waterway, shouldered by
protective island chains and the coasts of Washington, British Columbia
and Alaska, abounding with wildlife and beauty.

How are the customers being bullied by information on Oceana's web
site? Ahh, right. I forgot that you say things from a position of
zero knowledge. Hey, ignorance is one way to live... but I find it
offensive that you consider yourself a yachtsman.
