Jim,
I agree with the sentiment of not living your life in
fear. I don't step off the curb in front of on coming
traffic either and don't plan to be croc/shark bait
but yes, I know it could happen.
My problem with the email was that it seemed to be
saying that safety concerns were secondary to doing
what we want to do. I might "want" to do something
but, realistically speaking, if I do it, I will not be
safe and might well be killed. If I don't consider
that second part, I think I'd really need a "shrink."
Cruising itself is, or could be considered to be,
dangerous by many people when compared driving to work
in the morning. Yet tens of thousands of people are
killed each year, especially in the U.S., doing just
that. I don't have the statistics but I think you
could probably count on both hands and both feet the
number of cruisers who die each year while cruising,
and have digits left over. True, statistically, there
are more people in the world who are not cruising and
that would maybe make the tens of thousands
insignificant and the relatively small number of
cruisers might make the few appear to be very
significant. But then, I'm not a statistitian and I
think I may have gotten well off the subject.
I guess I'm trying to say: Whatever you do, do what
you want. Wherever you go, go wherever you want. But,
be carefull out there. The life you think about before
you go/do might not only be yours, it might be someone
you love even more than yourself.
