    Hi Lynn,

The medical facilities in the Med and Spain in particular are very
good. For minor ailments one can usually consult the local
pharmacist and purchase prescription drugs (e.g. antibiotics) at a
very reasonable cost. I have heard nothing but praise so far for the
Spanish and French hospitals which are both well equipped and very
cheap: cheaper than Britain and much, much cheaper than the US (us
    major `operatees' (an A.A.A. @ $ 15,000 in my case) tend to
    compare
    prices and experiences.)

Furthermore your friends might like to know that they need not fear
to fly the US flag anywhere in the European side of the Med. It is
safer and more stable than most places in the world and I have heard
no reports of American "no go" areas apart from the obvious
    (e.g.
Libya). In fact, we are really quite civilised over here :-)

    David
