    Of course the premise of your question is all wrong. If you go where poor
    young men roam the streets with AK-47s and the government is waging an
    undeclared war (like the Sulu Sea, Mendeno, & Zamboanga--where even the
    priests carry guns or have body guards), you've violated the first rule of
    common sense cruising. While the northern PI is great for visiting, in
    general the country is a year round Disneyland of natural disasters:
    typhoons, volcanoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, mudslides, forest fires,
    monsoon floods, and a ferry boat a month turns over and sinks. Add to that
    Muslim extremists who lop of foreigner's heads, a tradition of kidnap and
    ransom, an ineffectual police and military, and a growing social unrest and
    it's not all that attractive of a cruising destination outside of Manila.
