I found little time that I was bored and wishing for something to do. Usually on
rainy days, I would read or visit another boat. It only got tiresome when it
rained for several days.
Snorkeling, day sailing, making new friends (locals, tourists, sailors on other
boats), helping others with boat work, rowing and swimming. I spent a lot of time
just daydreaming and watching harbor activites, nature, weather, sea life.
I will be building a nesting dinghy to have a good sized sailing dinghy to play
with as well as to row and motor. Two of the biggest detractions, in my mind, for
inflatables is that they don't row or sail well. These are both very eenjoyable
activities. To me, a big advantage to living on the water is being able to
participate in "sailorly" activites which inflatables prevent.
I also tended to spend more time getting somewhere than others because I didn't
sail from one destination to the other. I would stop, anchor out, explore the
coastline and stretch a three-day passage into a two week or two month adventure.
Like the saying says, "When a power boater is on his boat, he is going somewhere.
When a sailor is on his boat, he is already where he wants to be."
