Hi David,
I'm jealous. (grin).
As far as your EMT skills, I'd recommend taking any and all
"wilderness EMT" courses that you can get to.
As you are aware the conventional EMT (whether a B,I,or P)
is trained to work a patient for a relatively short time (stabilize
and transport, assisting while transporting).
Whereas when cruising you may be two weeks or more from
medical care. Much more if you're out of radio contact.
A lot like the backcountry wilderness EMT who may not be
able to get his or her patient out for the same length of time.
This will allow you to include a different and potentially much
more valuable set of skills and training in your mental "trauma bag".
Also I'd suggest your wife picking up her HAM ticket too.
It's not as difficult as some would make it.
And having two ops on board simplifies things at times.
