Is there any special manual skills apart from boat/sail/engine maintenance
and repair and sailing specific skills that would be useful out there?
It's hard to do a list without including sailing and maintenance, but here
goes:
Start doing a lot of walking.
Learn to do your own weather routing. A serious study of weather is in
order.
First aid training and prepare medical supplies.
Get all financial affairs in order.
Plan mail forwarding and your "home agent".
Learn to fish.
