glum, or the reality. the advice to "find a soulmate" is a little like the
advice on making ham and eggs for breakfast. First you find a chicken, then ...

The reality is that there are not a lot of "age appropriate" women floating
around on air mattresses waiting and hoping for an available sailor to float on
up. The world of cruising sailboats if filled with single men looking for
find a "soulmate" and if they can't find her, they are willing to sometimes make
a compromise or two. Even then, other than hanging out at touristy places
the chances of scoring, even briefly let alone longt-term, are slim slim slim.
I have heard active cruisers (couples) tell of men they knew who gave the
cruising life to return the Midwest or whereever to find a woman to share there
time with. Virtually every cruising man, every cruising woman I could find to
talk with who was part of a couple said they started out as a couple. Gotta
be some exceptions, but I never found one, or even someone who knew second hand
    of an exception.

That's the bad news. The good news is if you know the bad news it isn't news
anymore. A guy can bring his woman, or his can deal with some woman on the
edge, or he can play with the tourists, or he can hope to hit the lottery. Or
he can do any combination of the above he wishes. I think most single sailors
deal with the edgy women and/or tourists hoping to find a nugget of gold
    somewhere.
