Don't know if this will help, but a few years ago an almost new Valiant 50
(Hull #1) had a fire aboard. The fire started next to the Nav Station,
probably an electrical short circuit. It burned slowly over several hours.
The factory refused to repair the boat, claiming that it was irrevocably
damaged, that the hull and deck in the area of the fire had been
compromised. The owner purchased a new Valiant 50; I'm sure his insurance
paid for most of it. The old boat sat at the Valiant factory for a few
years. Eventually, the insurance company had it trucked to a wholesaler
near Dallas where it was auctioned. It's been rebuilt and is currently
sailing in the New England area. The factory's position remains that the
boat does not meet factory specs for structural integrity.
You may wish to study that issue (structural integrity of the hull and deck)
in greater detail, to determine if the damaged boat can ever be restored to
its original condition.
