The investigator has stated that the fire began in the engine
compartment. Jeanneau apparently makes one engine wiring harness for
all of it's boats... a reasonable thing to do. Since the 45.2 is not
the largest boat made by Jeanneau, the extra wire length was bundled up
in a tight loop. This loop was in close proximity to the throttle
cable, and the throttle cable apparently wore through the insulation on
the wiring. At some point, electricity arced from the exposed wiring,
and the fire began. (This is coming through my dad, so there may be
some slight inaccuracies.)
The boat had approximately 200 hours on the engine. We took delivery
of the boat in August.
