I live in Buenos Aires, that is about 1.600 nautical miles north of the
Cape, but I will be glat to try to find any information you may need. Just
as a general idea, the Cape is way south, and VERY cold and stormy in
winter, so plan to go that south during our summer months (December to
    February).

The last major city (with boatyards, replacement parts, services for all
equipments, etc.) is Buenos Aires ( 34.36' S, 058.22 W). From here south you
will only find smaller cities (50.000 to 150.000 inhabitants), with much
less resources. The last city (and the southern most of the world) is
    Ushuaia ( 54.50 S, 068.21 W), and about 150 nautical miles from the Cape.

I lived in mexico and Belgium, but I didn[t sail at that time.

I am also dream to go into a long cruise. My idea of medical coverage is to
go with coverage for major incidents (the ones that I may not be able to
afford myself), and pay for minor expenses.

    Regards

    Jorge

      Hi Jorge,

Thanks for posting. You live in an area that I hope to
visit one day. Part of my dream is to sail around the
cape West to East. When that time comes, I will be
quite interested in knowing all about the weather
      patterns, etc.

When you were in Belgium did you sail much? Where?
Just curious. I haven't been to Belgium either but it
is another of many countries I hope to some day visit
when I can cast off the lines here. Have been to
Mexico though, although not on a boat. Drove down as
far as Ensenada and took a bus trip down that way too.
A nice country that I would like to know and
      experience more.

Back to the topic. I'm assuming that it is not
necessary to have insurance to get medical care there
and that the costs you have given are "out of pocket"
expenses. They don't seem too excessive but I have
heard of lower rates in other parts of the world
although the difference in care might be different
      too.

      John
