Wrong frequencies for a HF radio, I think. As far as I know, except for
some experimental and ham stuff, satellites use the VHF and UHF ranges. A
helical HF antenna would be enormous. The data is beamed down at regular
intervals in a compressed data stream that is unique to the weather service.
While you can capture it, you still need software to view it. You also have
a discrimination problem, if you intercept the satellite stream, you have to
take it all. OTOH the Ocens product, while not weather on demand, has
regular schedules and organizes the data into those most useful for
particular trips all together. Pricey, but good stuff.
