    Hi Dave,
            *Health Care* today.....one of MY very
    favorite subjects you can bet!

        I agree with your assessment of the actual
    delivery of health care today in the US, as we surely
    do have the best equipment, most advanced technology,
    the most highly trained medical staff. But thats not
    the issue, nor the concern.
        My concern is that most Americans today cannot
    afford insurance nor can they afford to pay for the
    health care they receive. Most times, most Americans
    are simply having to do without much needed medical
    attention, because the cost is simply unaffordable.
        I am not referring to those citizens that are of
    any particular "generation", I am referring to ALL
    citizens.
    The elderly cannot afford Rx drugs, and are forced to
    chose btwn much needed medications, and having food.
    This is a reality.
    The middle class cannot afford insurance, cannot earn
    enough money to pay for anything out of pocket, and
    also are falling into a bracket that is just above
    poverty level, so they don't qualify for any of that
    Gov't assistance you refer to.
        Our citizens are being forced into filing
    bankruptcies in record numbers in the US today...for
    the same reasons. Incurred medical expenses that they
    cannot repay or even hope to ever repay. And thats
    the number one reason for bankruptcies in the US
    today. I find that simply astounding and unacceptable
    in a country that is the most advanced in every other
    way, and is so rich in resources.
        Our citizens deserve access to afforable health
    care. Its just that simple in my mind.
    I know there was a time when most Americans could
    afford health insurance, I remember those times too.
    And it seemed we all had access to the medical
    community that we needed. But today, thats just not
    true. There are too many of our children that are not
    receiving even their basic immunizations, or basic
    wellness checks, because its just not affordable.
    I just don't find that acceptable.
    Also, have you ever been a small business owner and
    tried to purchase insurance? Its a joke, damn near
    impossible I assure you. As a business owner I know.
    And as a nurse, that has spent many years working in
    emergency rooms, and doing housecalls in the
    "projects", I have seen "reality" in todays health
    care.
    And I think, we should all be outraged that we as
    citizens cannot even afford health care, in this great
    and powerful country we live in.
    And isnt it just crazy even that we are being forced
    into obtaining drugs from other countries to begin
    with! sheesh...this simply should NOT be happening.
    So we can discuss all day long which countries have
    the safest drugs and the most affordable and on and
    on. But the real issue here is that we shouldn't even
    have to be looking outside our own country!
    Today...the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical
    companies are the strongest lobbying groups in the US.

    Translation: they are holding all the cards and making
    all the decisions about OUR healthcare today and
    deciding who and what and when, health care is
    delivered to.
    I just do not find this acceptable for our citizens.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    OKOK.....I'll step down from my soap box now. I
    warned ya'all...you gotta tell me to stop when I've
    gone too far! So, I'll close for now, but would love
    to hear the thoughts on this topic from other members
    as well.
    Just sign me...
    Mouth of the South...(lol),
    Ocean_Dancer~
    Cheers ya'all! :)
