Hello everyone,
My name is Joe and I am a 30 year old man who is now in the beginning stages of planning an adventure of a lifetime.
I have recently purchased a sea ray 410 sundancer and am planning to cruise the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and overall Caribbean. My goal is to make it to Trinidad, but I I would be happy if I just made it to the Virgin Islands.
I am familar with "boating" but am a rookie to "cruising". The longest trips I have loged have been across Lake Michigan.
I want to do this upcoming trip right! I was hoping to get some feedback on all aspects of Caribbeanb cruising including: publications, places to go, places not to go, gear, seamanship, maintenance, electronics.
One specific question that I have is what is the most affordable way to communicate via phone / email. Should I invest in a KVH track net system for the boat?? Or is there a wireless / cellular service that will have service in the Caribbean / Bahamas area? Is a satellite phone necessary or a good idea?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated and will be taken very seriously.
Thank you for your time,
joe
ps, if anyone is interested in calling please do not hesitate.
