Correct.
I carry in that damn PC-Nav bag
the following requisite items:
Reed's Nautical Companion
USCG Nav Rules
Coastal Pilot Charts for applicable
seas/coasts.....
Global wind/current charts.
Global weather almanac.
Paper,parallel,dividers,pencil....
And my old ancient compass
from Nova Scotia.....
For DR Nav is my specialty......
all this newfangled stuff is great
fun......
But never as much as when I turn
the switches off and sail by the seat o'me pants!
Most often directly into:
Steep Seas & Howlin'Gales!
SeaWolf

I am wondering if just fixing ones latitude and longitude and adding the
info to a plotting sheet and a chart of the appropriate scale is still a
viable means of navigation. My simple hand held GPS gives lat, long, and GMT
with just a couple clicks of a button. With the accuracy of today's charts
and the accuracy of today's GPS info I am wondering if it and appropriate
pilot book or light list might just be adequate.
