So~ you have taken, in mindset at least, the 1st step.......
Once you do that which you envision?
You will perhaps continue.....
And the next article on a sophisticated nav-system will
be penned by you....

If I were setting out today I would just have a GPS, and plot my
position on paper charts. Since my voyaging days were mostly
in the '60s, my electronic navigation was limited to RDF which,
ouside the US, meant pretty much the AM broadcast band. We
used it approaching Bermuda, and crossed a (Colon) Panama
station with Bonaire when approaching the P. Canal in poor
visibility. Otherwise navigation was DR and celestial.
A GPS would have eased the worry on several occasions when
rough sea conditions made for large triangles (my destinations
were almost always lee shore type, sailing westward in the
tropics), and if you are cruising in areas that tend to be overcast
or foggy a lot, the availability of GPS is a great advantage.
