A major overhaul on a diesel engine is based on engine hours. There are
things that need to be done or replaced on a purely calendar basis but that
doesn't include a major overhaul. Things included on a major overhaul are
replaced because of wear. They include, main bearings, rod bearings, front
and rear seal, oil pump, injector pump, and renew or replace injectors. See
your manufacturer. A major overhaul is a complete rebuild and or replace
parts as needed to put the engine back into factory spec.
