Great stories and I think the moral is clear - don't buy too much boat.
Keep it simple and make sure you can fix everything on board. This is
supposed to be fun. Even if water is $0.50/gallon in the islands - you can
buy a lot of gallons before you pay for a $4000 watermaker (and never do a
repair or maintenance). Also, if you don't enjoy boat maintenance (at least
a little bit) this is not for you. Avoid deadlines, have liability
insurance only. (Carry extra anchors instead). Don't tie up more than 10%
of your $$$ in the boat itself. You AND your mate must be committed to the
adventure aspect of doing this. Set a realistic goal (not a deadline), slow
down and take time to enjoy all the places you can.
