Mike, we have probably shared anchorages with you. We are homeported in
Bremerton at the Port of Brownsville. We spent the last three years south
(Calif) but we promised our daughter that she could go to High School here,
so we came back. We are here for three years, and since we have to stay
put we have rented a flat in Silverdale.

Next summer we plan to pop up to Barkley Sound for a few weeks. We love
the cruising up here. We were lured south because that's where we grew up,
but there's far too much concrete and nowhere to anchor. As you know, most
of the cruising stories that one will read in Latitude 38 or similar focus
on Mexico and the South Pacific. But from our travels we are coming to
believe the we honestly prefer it in Fjord-like surroundings.

Of course, I really do wish the water were 30 or 40 degrees warmer here!

As regards my use of the term "high latitude" I guess it depends on your
frame of reference. As I say, coming from a So Cal mindset in the last
couple of years, even Puget Sound counts as "high." (It's fun to see how
impressed they are down there if you have sailed down from up here. They
treat us like we are great ocean voyagers or something, when in reality
we're just a simple family wandering around on a simple boat.)

    Best regards.
