Chris,
If you are in NW waters there are several options for wintering over. We
have been cruising up here for three years and have used in Maple Bay, BC;
Oak Harbor, WA; Sidney, BC; Victoria, BC; Bellingham, WA and Roche Harbor,
WA for winter moorage.
We cruise in the winter. The Canadian Gulf Islands are great. The US San
Juans are also fantastic. The weather is relatively mild. The Gulfs and San
Juans are in the 'rainshadow' of the Olympic Mountain Range (120" of rain in
Forks, WA and a few miles away in Sequim, WA only gets about 17"). Victoria
is magical for Christmas and the government docks are inexpensive. Sidney,
Victoria, Campbell River and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island would also be good
choices as shopping is close by. Campbell River is a little out of the way
but the weather is mild.
Didn't chime in on earlier posts as we don't consider this area to be "high
latitudes." Hope this info helps. Contact us off list for more specifics if
you wish. Glad to talk.

PS Don't miss the Fish EXPO in Seattle 20-22 November. Best boat show in the
area. Only happens every other year.
Also, the Pender Harbor Jazz Festival in the middle of September is a great
event. Most venues are free.
