I have similar interests. The most enjoyable sailing I've done so far has been in Nova
    Scotia...Newfoundland and points north beckon.

In my previous life (USCG), I spent a couple of summers in the polar seas. While
there, I learned a few things about ice - mostly that it's incompatible with fiberglass.
Ice is very abrasive, so if your plans include occasional encounters with ice, a metal
(or metal-clad) boat is probably necessary. Some places you mentioned - Greenland,
Baffin Bay, as well as Labrador and Iceland - can have ice year-round.

Others have mentioned the primary considerations for high-latitude sailing:
    1. You must be more self-sufficient, as land based resources are far apart.
    2. The boat must be equipped to handle more extreme conditions of weather and
anchoring. It's not unusual to have the bow anchored in very deep water with the
stern tied to a rock ashore.
    3. The crew must be kept comfortable: lots of hot food (you will normally consume
150% more than in warm climates), dry bedding, dry clothes.

Since you're already in Puget Sound, a summer cruise to Alaska would be an excellent
start. But don't stop at Glacier Bay; continue beyond Anchorage to Nome. After that,
if you're still interested in high-latitude sailing, you'll be ready.

    Best,
