    The windlasses I'm familiar with all have chain-rope gypsies. These will
    handle a chain-rope splice very neatly, but will require some help if you're
    dealing with a thimble and shackle.

    If you have to change from capstan to gypsy, a chain hook or chain stopper
    to hold the rode secure while making the shift should do the trick.
