On a boat I manage for an absentie owner I have two log books. One is
for maintainence. The schedule of everything- be it daily, weekly,
monthly, 100hrs, 200 hrs......Type/brand of oil. Filter numbers-
manufacturer. Lighbulb part number and which type goes where(hate
going up and down the mast to figure out what bulb is needed. When
this or that was cleaned. If and when something was replaced in
relation to engine hours. If and when fuel, oil, battery water, etc
was added (and amount). Inventory of extra parts-and where they are
stored. I add small index tabs used for filing to ID topics and ease
of opening to where I need to go. The running log is just that-
lat/lon (GPS or DR), Weather (wind, sky, seas, temp, baro, etc)
speed, compass, last visble marker- anything else that is about your
boat being underway. No lines or boxes-I know what needs to filled in
by habit. I use the old fashion composition books. The cardboard
covered, sewed pages. I never had to experience it but I understand
that a bound log is legally accepted in court. A loose bound or
spiral notebook can have pages added or taken away. (J-you may know
me from LB. Talked of a ferrocement boat of a friend. Used to be with
    LB2. Got too silly there)
