The support network, as I understand it, is for the folks that have
registered and that's one of the things that you pay the bucks for.
In order to do one of these things, one has to have all the equipment
on board that the rally organizers feel you should have. Inspection
of the boats may be another area where the money goes.
The disadvantage IMHO is that the schedule sometimes leads one into
difficulty particularly if there is a race element.
I have not done this, although I watched them leave from Norfolk in
2000 in weather that I would have avoided. I would prefer to check in
with Herb every day, if I were to do it.
