Interesting that within minutes of sending my message yesterday, a news
report came on the TV that said the shark was positively identified as a
"Great White". That was followed by a brief interview with the expert, who
had examined the bite marks, who mentioned that the shark had to be 12-15
feet...but never mentioned the species.
About an hour later, another TV report indicated the "Great White" was 15-18
feet long.
Hyperbole is alive and well in the media.
There are at least a half-dozen different species of shark that are known to
attack humans. I wonder if anyone in the media can name more than one. :P
