Somehow, I don't think 23 years racing round the buoys indicates
someone who is new to sailing. Cruising perhaps. Certainly not
sailing.
Steve, what size boat do you have? How are you proposing to keep it
all onboard while you are offshore? True, the amount of time spent
offshore really isn't usually that long. Not more than about 30 days
maximum unless you have a very small boat with, therefore, a low
speed. I was just wondering if you have a "special" way of keeping it
or minimizing the size and probably odors. I'm presuming that before
you leave the dock or before you bring things onboard you transfer
things from cardboard, and maybe glass, to plastic containers of
different kinds and that these are used over and over again and not
tossed out when they are empty. Also presuming that you use a
permanent marker to indicate what is in those metal cans should the
labels come off in the bilge. Sometimes, I've heard that cans will
sometimes rust through (pin holes) and the contents will become
contaminated. Do you have a preemptive cure for that? Would I be
correct in saying that you plan to rinse out the empty cans and such
after using and then crush them? What about the foam, paper, foil,
etc. that you might use during cooking and such? Do you have a locker
that is dedicated to trash and from which odors do not escape?
