    Hi Ron,

    Yes, plastic is verboten to dump anywhere. If you're 25 nm offshore, you can
    legally dump metal and paper. I try pretty hard to collect that sort of stuff
    en route and find a way to recycle it in port somewhere. It's a bit more work
    to flatten stuff, find space for it on board, etc., but I just feel a lot
    better doing that than pitching it into the sea. There are limits to what one
    can do, of course, but reducing the amount of single-use packaging one takes
    on board in the first place also helps. Organic stuff, including human waste,
    is good for the deep six -- it'll feed some critter somewhere in the food
    chain.

    Not trying to grind an ax, just passing along my personal point of view.
