    Gerad,

It is _very_difficult_ for me to believe that there are _no_ people
on the list who either have a steel boat or know something about a
steel boat. Perhaps they are just out sailing or haven't picked up
    their email yet.

I don't have one or know much about them from a hull point of view.
However, I might be able to point you in a better direction. Check
the "Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors" (SAMS) and the "National
Association of Marine surveyors" (NAMS) Web sites. These are the "big
boys/gals" of marine surveyors and the only ones I would put my trust
in unless the scene has changed considerably in the last six or seven
years. It's not a "one size fits all" field.

Although I haven't looked at their sites in quite a long time, SAMS
used to have tests that surveyors took to show their qualifications
to do certain things. Don't remember if that included steel or not
and don't know if that is still the case or not. The point is that if
you can find a surveyor in your area who is willing to answer
questions (might cost you a few bucks for his/her time; their time is
money you know) about steel boats, you may find all your information.
If they are not themselves knowledgeable about steel, they may know
who is and be able to direct you to that person.

Don't know about NAMS and how they do things though. However, if you
go to the Web sites, you might be able to get a start.

    HTH

Anyone out there with steel or knows about steel? I'm sure Gerad
would _really_ love to have some first hand info about what buying
and living with it is like; just like you would have when you
    purchased/built.

    Rick
