[world-cruising] got courage?

Subject: [world-cruising] got courage?
From: Baumgart, James (james.baumgart@XXX.XXX)
Date: Mon Jun 02 2003 - 13:03:00 EDT

I recently read that courage is doing what you are afraid of - not "no
fear". How many experienced cruisers shake with fear before a passage, but
go anyways? I know I do. Well I rarely am afraid once on the water - if
conditions are bad I'm too busy for fear - before a major departure I
usually have a couple of sleepless nights, hang over the weather radio
endlessly, and worry about everything.

I'm not talking about docking, anchoring, or motoring across the harbor to
the fuel dock. Sometimes I feel mild anxeity about those things (if it's
very windy), but it's nothing. I'm talking about setting off to go beyond
the horizon.

How many people feel like me and what do you do about it?
