I find the normal fiberglass versus steel bias arguments perfectly
acceptable and somewhat entertaining. However, if you discount the poorly
built example of each, steel will always surpass fiberglass if strength is
of prime concern. Obviously, this does not take into account longevity due
to poor maintanence or sluggish sailing qualities due to a inappropiate
material for the given boat length. Each material has it's merits. If
coastal, bay or lake crusing are planned, fiberglass would be the logical
choice. Every other sailing adventure would welcome a well
constructed/maintained steel hull.
