Hello list,
I am also actively looking for a centreboard blue water vessel.
To me, their main asset is that they are able to "drift off" a wave,
whereas a keel boat will "stumble over" a wave. Why have high-wind
windsurfers cut their sword you think ? Another reference to this is
the DDDB "Drag Device DataBase" on real-life experiences using sea
anchors in heavy weather. A reducable draft helps you get thru the
gale, by drifting over waves. A third reference to this is my
experience with both high wind windsurfing and ocean cruising on a
long and deep keeled 31 ft, and some north sea cruising on a 36 ft
daggerboard yacht (a GibSea 36)
As for me, I'd like a modern version of the classical
dutch "platbodem" with an external balast in the form of a very
shallow keel, and two assymetrical daggerboards.
The boat that comes nearest to my dreams is the "fun 34" of Jean
