Subject: [world-cruising] Thank you everyone...

I am so thankful to everyone who actually took out the time to write
back to me, and share their valueable information. I cant even tell
you how much this has meant to me and my husband.
The first thing I have noted was how completely ignorant I have been
with regards to this whole issue. Of course, in my defense, it is
something we have been considering for LESS than 1 week!
For example, I thought we could buy a used "yacht" (I put it in
quotes, because I mean just a small boat with a motor) and be able to
go across the Atlantic in that. From what I am seeing, one needs a
sailboat to make that trans-atlantic crossing.
We went to a boat sales yard yesterday, and looked at a Carver 33
foot boat. It was beautiful, and at 333,000, it should have been,
LOL. I guess we will be getting a used one, of whatever we turn out
getting.
There is a class offered by Community College this summer called
Sailing 101, which we will be taking. At this point we are unsure if
we want a sail boat to go everywhere or just a boat with a motor to
cruise around the coasts.
Our budget to purchase the boat will be about 100,000. We will have
a monthly budget of 1,500 to live on. Is this feasible? (by the
time we actually leave, I will be getting more on my pension, so I
guess my question would be could we live on that if we were leaving
today?).
I will be reading all the books that have been recommended to me. We
will charter a boat for a week and go out on the ocean to see if this
is good for us, and the web sites and information everyone has posted
to me is priceless.
I am very glad to have joined this group, and will look forward to
more posts from everyone.
