Totally agree with this. If you must travel offshore to get to the
Caribbean and you have enough money and no experience, you can hire a
captain, or have a delivery crew or ship it.

I agree with all of this except this last. Florida to the Bahamas
isn't as difficult IMHO as offshore coastal from St. Augustine to NC.
I wouldn't start in St. Augustine anyway - it's an inlet that needs
some local knowledge.
The Gulf Stream is a presence in any case. It's just more immediate
between FL and the Bahamas (closer to shore). You can often find a
convoy to go to the Bahamas (we didn't, but a lot of people do). And
you're heading away from shore, so you don't have to worry about how
close you are along the long axis of the boat. If you pick your
weather, the trip to the Bahamas can be done in one long day (i.e.
less than 24 hours) even in a very slow boat.
If I was going to do coastal, I'd enter or leave via an inlet like St.
Marys (between GA and FL) or Ft. Pierce or Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.
We always do St. Lauderdale to Miami outside anyway. And last time we
went down we did Ft. Pierce to Miami outside to avoid all those
bridges. Once through there inside was enough.
