I think Tom Neale's book on living aboard might be a good place to
start. I've forgotten the title.
I'd also suggest chartering - at least first with a crew. You can
charter with a captain who will give you sailing lessons. and kill two
birds with one stone - both figure out if this is for you, and learn a
bit.
