Subject: [world-cruising] Communications for Caribbean

I would lke the group's opinion on outfitting our boat with long-
range communications gear. We've looked at satellite, but feel that
the variable expense would be too high long term. We would like to
outfit the boat with SSB or a ham radio, but we're not familiar with
the equipment or what's involved in installation. We realize that a
ham radio would require an amateur radio license but don't consider
that an obstacle. Can anyone recommend a good book, or other
resource, to learn more about our options? Thanks.
