I carry a 20' whip aerial in stowed sections in case the mast comes down. It is a racing requirement that you have an emergency antenna. However by using insulated wire I think I could attach it to jury rig in such a situation.

Once again thanks. I'm going to give your method a try. It sounds
perfect for my needs and should be easy to remove when not in use.
