Hi Chris,
Another nice way to go from Seattle to Vancouver is via train. Check out:
http://www.amtrak.com/trains/cascades.html
I think it is about US$25/person one-way. I have only ridden this train from
Anacortes-Seattle and Seattle-Portland, but have always enjoyed it. It is a
nice modern, quiet, "euro-train". I understand they clear customs under-way
which saves you some time/hassle at the border.
I would love to hear any info you have on shipping your boat from Mexico to
Canada. We would love to head south to Mexico, and maybe this is an
alternative we could use to get the boat home (Pacific Northwest) again.

Subject: [world-cruising] Assistance request ? Seattle WA / Vancouver BC
Hello friends. This assistance request is very much of a long shot, but I
thought it wouldn't hurt to at least put it out there. I won't be at all
surprised if I don't get any responses, but what the heck, let's try:
As many of you know we live aboard a Columbia 36. The boat is currently
on board a ship and headed from Ensenada BC Mexico to Vancouver BC Canada.
We, on the other hand, are in a rental car driving up the American west
coast in rough parallel to the ship.
(By the way, "we" refers to three of us: Myself, wife Debbie, and
daughter (15) Heather. We have been underway for three years, all of it
here on the West Coast.)
We had to remove certain items from the boat which would have otherwise
created hassles at the various borders:
Fishing gear ? because of Mexican laws.
Wine ? because of Canadian laws
Cats ? because of American laws.
Our arrangement at the north end looks like this:
Saturday, 29 March put the cats in boarding. Find a way to Vancouver BC.
Find a place to stay in Vancouver.
Sunday 30 March, meet the ship at Ballantyne pier in Vancouver and
retrieve our home. Spend the night aboard in Coal Harbour.
Monday 31 March sail from Coal Harbour to Blaine, WA (or equal)
Tuesday 1 April arrange to retrieve our cats and goods from wherever they
are.
So here is the list of areas where your input or comments would be
appreciated:
Recommendations of best most of travel, or offers of a ride, from Seattle
area to downtown Vancouver, no later than Saturday.
Recommendations of cat boarding in Washington, preferably somewhere
between Seattle and Blaine to facilitate the pick-up next week.
Recommendations of lodging (or offers of a place to stay) in Vancouver for
night of 29 March. (A consideration here will be ease of access to
Ballantyne Pier area on Sunday.)
I very much thank you for any assistance you care to offer.

Thanks!
