Webbing's going to stretch, but it also absorbs a lot of shock. The
downside is that it's possible to end up on the other side of the lifelines
with a 6 ft tether and that much give in the jackline.

What we do is rig webbing jacklines along the deck but also a centerline
jackline over the cabin top to the mast. Since we have two tethers on our
harnesses, we have a variety of hook-up options with a 6 ft and a 3 ft
tether to play with. If it's so bad out that you have to crawl along the
deck, then short tether on deck and long one on the centerline. If you can
stand up but feel vulnerable, 6 ft on deck and 3 ft on the cabin top
jackline. If it's not too bad, long tether alone on the deck (if there is a
second person on deck). If you're alone on deck and it's not too bad, then
short tether to the centerline.

The point is to never risk being swept over the lifelines while alone on
deck.
