Below is the first iteration of the list welcome and list
instructions for the world-crusing list. I say first iteration
because it will likely be updated from time to time. When that
happens, we will send out another version. You may want to mark this
and keep it for future reference. If you have questions or comments,
please contact me directly and not on list.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the World-Cruising list, an email list for cruisers and
those who want to cruise. Please take a moment to review this
message. You may want to save it for future reference.
This list replaces the "worldcruising" list whose owners went
cruising and which was then inundated with spam.
To send a post to the list, send email to:
world-cruising@XXX.XXX Any mail sent to this address will be
sent to all members in the manner they have selected.
To send a post to the list co-owners/moderators, direct email to:
world-cruising-owner@XXX.XXX
To subscribe, send email to: world-cruising-subscribe@XXX.XXX
To unsubscribe, send email to: world-cruising-unsubscribe@XXX.XXX
To see and modify all of your groups, including how you wish to
receive your posts, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups.
Previous contributions are archived, but older posts will be deleted
once list archive limitations are met.
Messages which are cross-posted to other lists are allowed.
Addresses which "bounce" and are undeliverable are reviewed and a
"reactivation request" sent to the subscriber. If you receive such a
request, please complete the request. This is not an attempt to
harvest your email address or spam. "Soft" bounces will be allowed to
continue for an undetermined time since they may be cruising short
term. "Hard" bouncing members will be deleted if the reactivation
request is not returned within 7 calendar days. This means the member
will need to reapply for list membership if they wish to resubscribe.
If you stop receiving postings, check the list Web site to determine
if there have been any postings. The list may have been quiet for a
time. If there are posts you have not received, check your
preferences. You may be subscribed to receive posts as something
other than individual email. You may also post questions directly to
the list owners/moderators or apply to resubscribe. You will not be
subscribed twice to the same address.
Please do not post long messages (more than a very few KBytes). Some
members download their email via cell phone, slow modems, or for
other reasons pay for their email by the minute and this can be quite
time consuming and expensive. Keep quotes from previous postings to a
minimum. Please strip out old headers, trailers, and nonessential
parts of the old post. Attachments are not allowed. Provide a URL to
a Web page, if available, instead. Please include the "http://"
prefix to the URL. This makes it clickable for most members and makes
connecting easier.
Members may directly post boating and cruising related links to the
Links section. No commercial posting is allowed in the links section
or in any other manner. Files and photos may be posted to the site
only by the
co-owners/moderators. Should you wish to place something in these
areas, please contact those individuals with the material desired.
They will determine if it will be posted, and will be the final
authority, and will do so.
Standard mail etiquette for this list is to send email responses to
the list. If a response is sent to the original sender, it is
customary for that person to post a summary to the list once replies
have ceased.
Let's keep this list focused and useful. In particular, "flames" and
repetitive chit-chat are not allowed; such outbursts or lengthy
personal debates are often followed by several unsubscribe requests.
Persons sending "flames" or other abusive expressions will first be
warned. If the person persists, that person will be placed on
moderation status for a period of time or finally removed from the
list and banned.
This is an international list. Therefore, politics (including foreign
policy), guns, and religion are not topics that are appropriate. Such
discussions must be taken to more appropriate forums. For example,
you should not discuss the perceived ethics of whatever country's or
state's law enforcement personnel, or why your boat was riddled with
bullet holes, but you can discuss methods needed to fix the holes, or
where to avoid pirates or the requirements for checking into a
county. This list is meant to provide information needed by people
who are or want to be cruising the various waters of the world and
therefore living on their boats, not to be a vehicle for political
and ideological debates about issues or people having no connection
with cruising or living aboard their vessels.
DISCLAIMER
You use the list at your own risk. While we do our best to protect
the list from spam, and protect it from being stolen by spammers, we
cannot assume the responsibility of protecting you from viruses.
Email viruses propagate because of the inherently insecure
architecture of the computer environment. Each subscriber is highly
encouraged to avail themselves of one or more of the virus protection
software applications available and to maintain that software by
regular updates.
