I believe Hal Roth was about 60 when he entered the round-the-world
race he described in the book "Chasing the Long Rainbow"- or maybe it
was the book after that... :-)

While rebuilding my boat in Mississippi a couple years ago, I met a
gent in his mid-80's who, while not a blue-water sailor, had taken
his boat the entire navigable length of the Ohio and Monongahela
river system at age 81. He had an amazing body of boating skills
which more than made up for any physical weakness from age.

And at that same marina, a fellow, age 71, came in from the West
Indies on a 44' Morgan Out Islander- bringing with him his 27 year
old wife and infant child.

So I don't think it is a matter of age per se, more one of spirit and
desire (and health). I know that as I have aged, symbolic stunts
like "sailing around the world" have less and less appeal, and actual
journeys to places I want to visit have more. I don't think you
should expect that your wishes at your current age will necessarily
be the same when you hit 70. But as long as you have that twinkle in
your eye, go do it!
