David Clark, who on December 7th of 2001 earned the world record for Oldest
Solo Circumnavigator
He was 70 yo. Alec Rose was 65 when he completed his solo Circumnavigator
stopping just once.
Tony Mowbray seems to be the oldest Australian to do a non-stop Solo
Circumnavigator at 40 yo.
I know of many boats who have competed in Sydney Hobart races with average
age of crew over 60yo.
and there are many retired people cruising around the Pacific.
Recently Australia's last surviving ANZAC veteran 102 year old Tasmanian,
Alec Campbell.died . He did not start sailing until 60 when he built his own
boat in Hobart then kippered her is several 6 Sydney - Hobart races. He got
married at 60 and had several children. His last at 69
I am 61 and I am planning to do substantial extended cruising. I was 55
when I sailed America to Australia solo. I married at 60 and I have a 10
month old bay girl.

I'm very into the fitness lifestyle, and being so helps me to be a
better sailor. I have a vague impression that one's ability to
cruise without limits will end at about 55-60 years of age. I hope
to be fit enough to enjoy active sailing into my 60's, but I really
haven't seen too many 60+ active and able sailors doing long, blue
water passages. How old was the oldest able-bodied cruiser that you
all have met?
