I seem to remember Susan Hishock(sp) being chastised for setting out from
New Zeeland to the Pacific Northwest after Eric had passed away and without
help. She was I think at the time in her 80's. Made it fine.
I believe experience has something to do with it.
Also I know of friends still out there in there 70's.
I believe your health not age is the issue.

I'm very into the fitness lifestyle, and being so helps me to be a
better sailor. I have a vague impression that one's ability to
cruise without limits will end at about 55-60 years of age. I hope
to be fit enough to enjoy active sailing into my 60's, but I really
haven't seen too many 60+ active and able sailors doing long, blue
water passages. How old was the oldest able-bodied cruiser that you
all have met?
