People have crossed oceans in all sorts of boats. A case in point is the recent story of the fellow who single-handed a 14' West-Wight Potter from the US West Coast to Hawaii. Almost any boat can be adapted to be safe at sea. Much more is dependent on the sailors than the boat being sailed.
I don't want this to sound like a slam, but, if you don't already know whether or not your boat is up to the task, then you may need more experience so you can tell for sure. Even if you know the boat is seaworthy by design you should have a complete survey by a competent marine surveyor. Best of luck!

I have a Beneteau First 32 (32.75' LOA and 28" LWL) that I would like
to sail from Block Island to Bermuda. I think it is adequate for the
trip (particularly when I read last week that a 15 year old just
sailed hsi 32' foot boat single-handledly from the Azores to the
Caribbean), but I'm not sure. I realize at 32' we would probably get
bounced around in bad weather, but that doesn't bother me. It's the
life threatening stuff that I worry about. I would appreciate any
thoughts anyone might have on this subject.
Thanks, Tim
